Vodka Cocktails
“As brewers we drink what we make all the time, which are mostly IPA's.
But every once in the while we need a break from the flavor bombs (and calories) and sit down with some clean refreshing liquid. Our beverage of choice is vodka sodas. But being brewers we always need flavor even in subtle amounts. So we graduated from just muddled lemon-lime to flavored vodkas. This led us down the flavor rabbit hole. After a journey through the vast world of flavors, we found ourselves coming back to two; lemongrass-lime and blood orange. Then we made the mistake of sharing with our 10 Barrel family and the project was on. We partnered with our local favorite distillery, Oregon Spirits, to design the
perfect flavored vodka to pair with soda. We went through at least eight variations of each flavor until we found perfection. The culmination of all this is the perfect union of flavor and refreshing drinkability.”

According to Oregon Spirits Distillers, all of their vodka uses wheat as the base fermentable.
Using a wheat based vodka, similar to gin, would accentuate the citrus notes. Margarita Cocktails “When it comes to canning cocktails, margaritas were the first we wanted to tackle. After several trips to Mexico, [founders] Chris and Jeremy drank the purest tequila and most authentic margarita recipes they could find. From these trips, they were inspired to take what they tried back to the brewery. Based on the amount of ingredients and preparation, margaritas aren't frequently seen on the banks of rivers, trails in the woods or the back of golf carts. So, as one of the more cumbersome cocktail recipes to make, The Cox Bros took the leg work and hassle out of the equation and canned three incredible recipes for convenience to enjoy anytime, anywhere without sacrificing the quality.
Tequila: The tequila made by 3 Amigos Tequila (NOM 1570: Altos Cienega Unidos, S.P.R. de R.L.) is
made from highlands agave which is cooked in autoclaves, then crushed by a roller mill. It is then double distilled in pot stills before being proofed and bottled. According to 10 Barrel, it was “picked for its clean flavor and great nose.”

Product Line-Up
LEMONGRASS LIME VODKA SODA
ABV: 7% SRP: $4.50/12oz $11.99/4pk Ingredients: Oregon Spirits Distillers Lemongrass-Lime Vodka (made exclusively for 10 barrel cocktails). Based upon flavor and lack of color, we believe that lemongrass and lime essential oils are used to create the vodka. Inspiration: “Lemongrass and lime is so refreshing that it is the perfect component for a vodka soda. With its citrusy combination of lemon and lime aromatics, it previews what's to come as this libation crosses the gateway of your palate. Then comes the right amount of light lemon that finishes with a limey bite. All this creates that crisp, refreshing taste that is the attribute of the perfect vodka soda.” -10 Barrel Brewing Co. |
Tasting Notes
Color: Clear Aroma: The lemongrass is very prevalent, with lime oil in the background. Taste: The lemongrass is the dominant flavor. The lime flavor is reminiscent of lime oil rather than lime juice because it is missing the bright acidity that one may expect from a lemongrass-lime cocktail. The cocktail is also sweetened, but in a way that is more reminiscent of tonic water’s bittersweet flavor than a lemon-lime soda. |
Tasting Notes
Color: Clear Aroma: Bright blood orange zest. It should be noted that blood orange has more aromatic, floral qualities than a navel orange. Taste: No citrus acidity, but it is very floral and light. There is also a slight tannic quality, which typically indicates the influence of the pith. This helps to create more mouthfeel for the vodka soda than if no pith was used. Similar to the Lemongrass-Lime flavor, there is some sweetening, but this drinks more like a seltzer water than a blood orange soda. It also has a light effervescence. |
BLOOD ORANGE VODKA SODA
ABV: 7% SRP: $4.50/12oz $11.99/4pk Ingredients: Oregon Spirits Distillers Blood Orange Vodka (made exclusively for 10 barrel cocktails). Based on the flavor of the cocktail, we believe the Blood Orange Vodka was made with blood orange essential oils, or by steeping in vodka the blood orange peels that still contain some pith, then removing the color. Inspiration: “We wanted a cocktail that is refreshing and fun, which birthed the Blood Orange Vodka Soda. Hints of fresh-cut orange, with all of its juice and zest exciting your nose. This sets the stage for that perfect marriage of light orange bitterness and citrus sweetness in the flavor, with no vodka bite. All of this is delicately done to keep it fun, but ridiculously refreshing.” -10 Barrel Brewing Co. |
GREY HOUND
ABV: 11.8% SRP: $4.50/12oz $16.49/4pk Ingredients: Oregon Spirits Distillers Vodka Grapefruit Juice Sparkling Cascade Water Agave Nectar Inspiration: “At our original pub, this drink for us was the 'Jimmy Carter,' which is based on a traditional Greyhound recipe (1 part vodka, 4 parts grapefruit juice). However, our bartenders added a twist by replacing half the grapefruit juice with soda water, which balances out the tartness and adds a carbonated kick to our 'Greyhound'. Of course, we didn't want to infringe on a past president, and so, while this ready-to-drink cocktail looks like a traditional Greyhound by name and in package, this is our own unique spin on the recipe.” -10 Barrel Brewing Co. |
Tasting Notes
Color: Ruby Pink, the expected color of grapefruit juice. Aroma: Grapefruit juice, with a hint of vodka’s astringency. Taste: Initial touch of amber sweetness from the agave, which adds depth to the flavor, opens into a grapefruit juice note. The grapefruit flavor is on par with most other shelf-stable grapefruit juices, but is missing the bright citrus note of a fresh grapefruit, though this should be expected. |
Tasting Notes
Color: Lime Juice Green Aroma: Big waft of ginger, preceded by tart lime. Taste: In this ginger-forward Moscow mule, the top tart lime note is joined by spice from the ginger and a nice, soft effervescent mouthfeel. The ginger aroma then grows, before dissipating into fragrant lime notes with lingering ginger spice. |
MOSCOW MULE
ABV: 10.9% SRP: $4.50/12oz $16.49/4pk Ingredients: Oregon Sprits Vodka House Made Spicy Ginger Beer Fresh Ginger Sparkling Water Orange Juice Fresh Agave Fresh Lime Juice Inspiration: “The traditional Moscow Mule is a slippery slope of a recipe, where just enough house-made ginger beer needs to be mixed with locally sourced vodka and lime juice for that perfect balance worthy of a copper cup from your favorite bartender. We're stoked to have nailed this recipe, and while we haven't found a source for copper cans to deliver this in true tradition, we're sure you'll savor this perfect Moscow Mule, canned for your convenience to enjoy wherever you want to drink it.” -10 Barrel Brewing Co. |
Bloody Mary
ABV: 10% SRP: $4.50/12oz $16.49/4pk Ingredients Oregon Spirits Vodka, Tomato Juice Salt, Black Pepper Horseradish, Celery Salt Worcestershire, Tabasco Sugar, Lemon Juice Family Secret, No really, family secret! Grandma would kill me!! Inspiration: “This very dear and secret recipe was passed on to us by one of our retired brewers. His grandmother shared this recipe with the expectation it would never be shared outside of the 10 Barrel Brewery walls. When introduced to grandma, she said to me "Jimmy, you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning!" She is a wise woman, indeed. This is the Bloody Mary we always wanted in a can and everyone else was scared to do. We're not! Big, bold, and in your face, with amped-up spiciness from the Tabasco pepper and horseradish. To drive home the savory aspect, we used celery salt, Worcestershire sauce, and fine ground black pepper. All of this, combined with some family secret ingredients, delivers an award-winning Bloody Mary which took two years to perfect before it was released.” -10 Barrel Brewing Co. |
Tasting Notes
Color: Brick Red Aroma: There’s a lot going on here. The top notes of celery salt and lemon moves into the horseradish and black pepper. Eventually, the tomato’s acidity arises and then dissipates into its red fruit. Worcestershire generally envelopes all the aromas with its old book-like smell. Taste: The first impression is of horseradish. This opens into the Tabasco’s heat before hitting the citrusy lemon juice and tomato notes, but lacks the tomato pulp typical of a Bloody Mary. As these flavors dissipate, the black pepper and celery salt become more prevalent. The finish is predominantly of Worcestershire and the lingering heat from the Tabasco. |
Tasting Notes
Color: Pale green, the color of your typical margarita. Aroma: Distinct lime note accentuated by a touch of orange, and supported by dried tropical fruit. Taste: A tart lime top note, which is not as aromatic as fresh squeezed lime (to be expected from a canned cocktail) but not artificial either. This expands into faint notes of orange which help to accentuate the lime. It then quickly transitions into subtle dried tropical fruit notes from the blanco tequila. The agave sweetener helps to offset the lime’s tartness, and provides a better mouthfeel and finish without being syrupy. Ultimately, tequila is not the predominant flavor of this cocktail. Rather, dependent on the personal preferences of the drinker, it provides complexity to the lime juice, or is equally balanced with lime juice. |
Classic Margarita
ABV: 9% SRP: $4.50/12oz $16.49/4pk Ingredients: 3 Amigos Tequila Lime Juice Orange Juice Agave Inspiration: “This is a true testament to a traditional margarita recipe, with all the sweetness you'd expect to find from any salt-lined rim glass at a cantina south of the border, balanced with the finest sourced tequila, creating a perfect blend and ready to go when you are. Simply shake, open, and enjoy! Pour over or blend with ice to step up your game, or just enjoy fresh out of the can.” -10 Barrel Brewing Co. |
